Consul General Manawi attends government briefing in Victoria, BC, May 14, 2025
The Government of British Columbia hosted a formal briefing session in Victoria for members of the Consular Corps of BC. Mr, Ramin Manawi, Consul General of Afghanistan in Vancouver participated in the event alongside fellow consuls general and other government officials.
 
The program began with welcome remarks by the Honourable Susie Chant, Parliamentary Secretary for the Consular Corps, followed by a guided tour of the Parliament Buildings. Members of the Consular Corps were formally introduced in the Legislative Assembly by Parliamentary Secretary Chant and observed a dynamic session of Question Period chaired by Honourable Raj Chouhan, offering valuable insight into British Columbia’s parliamentary process.
 
Following this, the delegation convened in the Ned DeBeck Lounge for a series of focused briefings. Ms. Lucy Lobmeier, Chief of Protocol, opened the session by introducing the program and speakers. Parliamentary Secretary Chant then provided introductory remarks ahead of the briefings, which featured:
 
• The Honourable Diana Gibson, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, joined by The Honourable Rick Glumac, Minister of State for Trade, and Mr. Paul Choi, Parliamentary Secretary for Asia Pacific Trade, who presented on interprovincial and international trade initiatives, foreign direct investment opportunities, major projects seeking international partnerships, and British Columbia’s approach to U.S. tariff policies.
• The Honourable Jagrup Brar, Minister of Mining and Critical Minerals, delivered an informative presentation on the province’s mineral resources, with an emphasis on sustainable development and global cooperation in the critical minerals sector.
 
The session concluded with closing remarks by Premier David Eby, who reaffirmed the importance of international consular engagement and highlighted key provincial priorities, including economic development, investment attraction, clean energy innovation (solar and wind), housing, technology, and academic collaboration.
 
During the program, Consul General Manawi had the opportunity to meet and engage with the Honourable Premier David Eby; the Honourable Raj Chouhan; the Honourable Diana Gibson; the Honourable Rick Glumac; the Honourable Jagrup Brar; the Honourable Paul Choi; Parliamentary Secretary Susie Chant; and Ms. Lucy Lobmeier, Chief of Protocol.
